Allow me to run some interference, my fellow Lifelong Earner teammate!
It’s officially the 4th quarter! October, November, and December mark the final months of the calendar year and it’s time to leave everything on the field.
This is your moment. Your time. Your opportunity. We can win and achieve our financial goals, but we must run the right plays and stay in the game.
October is National Financial Planning Month and it’s a reminder to review our financial stats.
This month, we can also easily see the importance of keeping our eyes wide open as the goal posts keep moving. We are experiencing a volatile market, high-price inflation, and uncertainty.
We have to remain vigilant in this homestretch, so here are some winning ideas to stay in the $ game:
- “Run the play!” Your budget is your playbook. Know the X’s and O’s of where your money is going and why. Be intentional about where you tell your money to go. Follow through and review your finances regularly to make sure you stay on track.

- “Get Low!”: Get in your stance and stay ready. When you get low on the court, you’re able to pivot and turn with more agility. Be ready for whatever is coming at you by staying alert and flexible with your money mindset and funds.
- “Dodge those Curveballs!” Remember to start or continue stashing away some of your cash for life’s unexpected emergencies. Put your guard up by putting away extra money as much as you can so you can go to bat for whatever comes your way.

- “Play your position!”: Although you’re the MVP of your money, you can’t play every role on the team. It’s okay to ask for help from time to time and score with an assist every now and then. Learn and acquire more information from financial experts through books, podcasts, etc. Consider working with a certified financial planner to assess your investments, progress, and opportunities.

- “Hydrate!” Refresh and recharge. This final quarter will bring a lot of activity, such as holidays and more. Remember to take time to catch your breath and renew yourself with healthy habits for your mind, body, and soul.
So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to double down. Play offense and defense with your money for the win – you got this!
